STARVING TO DEATH

"But He answered and said, It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of God." - Matthew 4:4

You could tell by just looking at him that he hadn't eaten in quite a while.

This young man showed the tell-tale signs of wear and looked somewhat weak and frail.  His eyes were narrow and stern, and had lost their glimmer. The fervor and vigor were gone from his step and the energetic laugh and disposition had vanished along with his outgoing nature.  He looked defeated, almost unconcerned about his condition.

The young man didn't say much, seemed kind of distant and unwilling to share what had lead him to this place of malnutrition.  He was starving to death and you could see it by just looking at him.  And, yet, he expressed no interest in a meal when it was offered to him.  Instead, he said, "I'm fine, really."

Amazing, but only a few weeks ago he was healthy and vibrant, full of life.  His eyes danced with enthusiasm and energy oozed from him as if there was an unending source.  A smile was firmly implanted on his face and he was the embodiment of good health. My, how quickly these things happen when you aren't eating a nutritious diet.

How long is too long when you are skipping meals?

My friends, the young man that I mentioned above was myself.  But, here's the point...it wasn't physical meals that I had been skipping, it was spiritual meals.

You see, at the time several years ago, I had been neglecting my daily Bible study...

...and my life showed it.

You could easily read the signs and see that the joy and energy was no longer in my life.  I looked defeated and unconcerned and even rejected the help of others.

How did it happen?  Skipping the first meal.  Then, another meal was skipped.  Then two meals in a row.  Soon, I hadn't read the Word in a week, and it wasn't long before, spiritually, I was suffering from malnutrition.

Praise the Lord...He set me down at the table and fed me a nourishing meal and nursed me back to health.  Now, I'm  feasting on the finer things at the Lord's table.

What about it, Christian?  Have you eaten today?  Are you dining with the Lord and filled with health and nourishment?

If you are, then your  life should show it.

If you aren't getting three "square meals" a day, please remember...

..."Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

I think I hear the dinner bell ringing!
