THE MAKINGS OF A PERFECT DAY

"This the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it."
- Psalms 118:24

The perfect day?  Hmmmm.   I'm not exactly sure what it would look like, but I think it would be similar to this...

"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised." (Psalms 113:3)  Yes, the perfect day would most definitely begin with praising the Name of the Lord Jesus. He is so worthy of my adoration and worship.  I'd have to thank Him for all of His wonderful blessings and just praise Him for who He is...the Creator and Savior of the world...Holy and Righteous and great and mighty!   I can't think of a better way for the day to begin...

...can you?

So, the perfect day would begin with praising the Lord.  We're off to a great start already!  What next?

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He (Jesus) went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed."  (Mark 1:35)  Can't have the perfect day without communing with the Father, amen?  While the praise is flowing from my heart, I'd spend time fellowshipping with my Creator, pausing to listen as He speaks to me.  Prayer and Bible study...my "quiet time" with Jesus.  This really is going to be a perfect day!

Time to hit the grind and go to work, right?  Reminds me of something I read in my Bible during my perfect beginning to the perfect day...

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;" (Colossians 3:23)  Hey, I can take that one to work with me today!  When I'm cashiering or working the assembly line or doing carpentry work or taking care of the kids...whatever it is that I do today, I am reminded to do it as I would for the Lord.  Seems like I read something else this morning as well...

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." (I Corinthians 10:31) I sure am glad that I had my quiet time this morning.  If I had not, then I might not have remembered reading that.  It sure came in handy, too.  When my boss jumped all over my case and the guys were all telling dirty jokes and my machine broke...it reminded me that my Christianity was on display for all to see.  I was able to respond in a way that glorified the Lord today.  I believe that those around me saw Jesus in what I said and did on the job...

...who would  have thought that a perfect day could include my job?! ;-)

Hey, there's that new guy.  They say he just went through an awful divorce.  I also heard that he was once in prison.  Everyone seems to be staying clear of him.  I guess I will too.  Huh?  Oh yeah!  Now, I remember...

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:  and ye shall be witnesses unto me..." (Acts 1:8)  Well, I'll just go right up to him and tell Him about Jesus.

He's coming to church with me on Sunday!  The perfect day is still intact!

Uh oh.  Here comes trouble.  These guys just don't give up, do they?  They are going to ask me again to go have a drink with them.  Or, maybe it's the casino again.  Perhaps they want to enlighten me with one of their award-winning dirty jokes.  One thing is for sure, they are going to laugh at me and mock me for my faith.  But, I see it all coming.  Want to know why?  It's simple...

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."  (I Peter 5:8)   You see, I've had my eyes open all day, just waiting.  I knew it was coming...the Lord warned me all about it!  Satan isn't going to tempt me into ruining the perfect day!

Quitting time.  Praise the Lord.  It's off to the house to eat dinner and spend some time with my family.  I always enjoy spending time with my wife and kids.  Why?  Glad you asked...

"Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.  Children,  obey your parents in all things:  for this is well pleasing unto the Lord." (Ephesians 5:24-25 and Colossians 3:20)

Follow those three verses and you'll enjoy your home life!

There was some bad news today, though.  A financial situation arose that we aren't quite sure how to handle.  And we received a bit a unexpected telephone call about a family member who is very sick.  But, they won't spoil the perfect day because we are reminded to...

"Cast(ing) all your care upon him; for he careth for you." (I Peter 5:7)

Somehow, I even managed to find time just to relax and enjoy myself.  I just had to have a little entertainment and recreation (none of which was sinful, I might add!)  "Behold that which I have seen:  it is good and comely for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him:  for it is his portion." (Ecclesiastes 5:18)

Well, the day is all but over.  And, you know, it wouldn't be the perfect day without the perfect ending.  The day ends just like it began...

"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised."

By the time you read this, it will be the dawning of another day.  Will it be a perfect one?

It's got all the makings!

Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ,"
