February 22,
2000 -- Issue #114 "Great
is our Lord, and of great power: Please
pray for me. I
have been trying to teach my mother to use a computer! ;-) My
mom's idea of a mouse is a little furry creature that eats
cheese.
Windows are something she cleans on Tuesdays.
And surfing the net invokes ideas of a day at the
beach. In
other words, she doesn't know a thing about computers. But,
that's ok.
She spent many a day teaching me things about life
and, most importantly, about eternal life.
The least I can do is afford her a few hours of
computer training.
I love my mom very much and actually had a fun time
today showing her "the basics." The
thirty minute training (we were both pressed for time)
covered basic operations, from starting the computer to
logging on to the internet, to sending email to exploring a
wonderful site on the internet, Living4Jesus.com ;-)
That's
a lot to cram into half an hour! We
finished the tutorial and I began to explain to her how to
shutdown the computer.
My exact instructions were... ..."First,
click on the 'Start' button in the lower left hand corner of
your computer." "But,
you said we were going to quit," mom replied. "Yes,
I know.
Click on the 'Start' button in the lower left hand
corner." "Huh?
Are
you sure?
That doesn't make sense.
I want to quit and you say click 'Start.'" My
response?
"Trust me.
I've been doing this a long time.
I know what I'm doing." You
see, as most of you know, the "shutdown" function
is accessible by clicking on the "Start" button in
Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers.
I knew this, but my mom didn't.
And, she's right.
It doesn't make sense when you think about it...click
Start to quit? You
know, sometimes we interact with God somewhat like that.
In fact, a lot like that... Take
for instance, when God tells us to do something that just
doesn't make sense to us.
You know, when He tells us to do something that, to
our minds, seems backwards.
How do we respond? "Huh?
Are you sure?
That doesn't make sense." Maybe
this morning you are facing one of those times.
Perhaps the Lord has instructed you to give something
that seems like it is too great to give.
Or, maybe He has laid upon your heart to witness to
someone that seems unreachable.
I
don't know, but maybe the Lord is asking you to step out in
faith this morning to do something that seems illogical to
you. Maybe
you are like I become sometimes when my faith gets a little
weak, and you would say to God... "Huh?
Are you sure?
That doesn't make sense." Know
what God would say to you? "Trust
me.
I've been doing this a long time.
I know what I'm doing." My friend, that's His way of saying, "click on that start button this morning!" Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ,"Jimmy D. Brown \o/ Praise Jesus! |
