that repentance and remission of sins For a long time I didn't know if it was fact or fiction. After all, it seemed more like a "feel good" story, rather than an actual person who lived and breathed and... ...planted apple trees. From 1801 to 1834 a man by the name of John Chapman carried on a project that is still "bearing fruit." today. His activities were so unusual that many folk today wonder if he is, well, fact or fiction. He really lived and really did all that you are about to read. One April morning in Licking Spring, Ohio, John Chapman arrived on the scene having come from back East, in Massachusetts. Instead of finding a piece of land and settling down, Chapman staked out a clearing, reached into a burlap bag that he always carried and pulled out some seeds. He then began to plant them, finishing up by building a fence around the area. He left Licking Spring, Ohio as unannounced as he had arrived, traveling on through many other towns and villages in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. In each place, he repeated the pattern. John Chapman quickly became known as "Johnny Appleseed." You see, when he lived in Massachusetts, he had heard that only a few fruit trees existed in the midwest. It moved him to set out on a journey to plant apple trees in that region. His voluntary, untiring efforts in planting those seeds have provide both food and joy to what was previously barren locations. Oh, Christian, if there were only more "Spiritual Johnny Appleseeds!" You know, those who voluntarily, untiringly spread the Gospel seeds. Oh, let us provide spiritual food for the masses. Let us bring joy into the barren lives of many... ...let us tell others about Jesus! My friend, will you spread the Gospel seeds today? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
