April 3,
2000 -- Issue #138 "And
He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, It
was an interesting question. A
medical student who was applying for a position at a local
hospital was posed this question during an interview... "Dedicated
or poor?" What
the physician was, in essence, asking of the medical student
was, "Do you want this job because you have a love (for
the field of medicine) or because you have a need (for
money)?" An
interesting question, and one that warrants thought about
our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Do we cry out for Jesus when we have a need, only to
forsake Him when the need has been met?
Or, do we follow closely in a dedicated life, because
we have a love for our Savior? Many
times during Christ's earthly ministry people came to Him
with needs.
Some needed physical healing, others food for a
hungry stomach.
There was a great variety of needs brought to the
Lord.
But, often, those who came to Jesus for help turned
away from Him when He had met their need.
Even some from the inner circle of His friends
betrayed Him. Are
we that type of believer?
The type who cling to Christ in time of turmoil, only
to let our grip fall slack when the storm has passed?
Or, do we have a genuine love for Jesus that
constrains us to live sold-out lives, giving Him all that we
have, all of the time? Do
we hold our hands out?
Or, our hearts? I
am reminded that the Christian life is like a coin... ...you
can spend it any way you want, for any reason.
But, you can only spend it once!
How are you spending your life in Christ?... ...dedicated or poor? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
