2000 -- Issue #148 "...Verily
I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it It happened quite often. When I was a teenager, my sister would knock quietly at my bedroom door and enter with a note in her hand. I was about sixteen and my sister three years younger. Seldom was I without a girlfriend and my sister was just arriving at the age when she became interested in guys. This was the subject of her notes. She would enter quietly into my room, hand me a note and quickly leave before I read it. Or, sometimes I would come home from a date and find one of her notes on my bed. They all had the same question printed neatly inside... ..."do you know anyone who likes me?" You see, my sister was at the point that she liked guys, but, because she was shy, she wasn't confident enough to express her feelings to anyone. And so, she, in her shy way, wanted to know if I knew of any guys who liked her. Every time she entered with a note or I found one lying on my bed, I knew what she wanted. She just wanted to know if there was anyone out there who cared about her. She wanted to know if I knew of anyone who was interested in her, anyone who thought she was special. My first response was, "I care." And, then, I would tell her about someone I knew who had expressed an interest in her. My friend, there are folks all over the world this morning who have notes written on their faces. They have notes seen in their actions and in the words that they speak. Yes, my friend, they are crying out to you and I and are pleading with us to answer that burning question in their hearts... ..."do you know anyone who likes me?" They just want to know if there is anyone out there who cares about them. They long to find out if anyone is interested in them, if anyone thinks they are special. Listen closely, dear Christian, because there are many in your pathway who are bearing notes for you to answer. Are you going to respond, "I care." And, then, are you going to tell them about someone you know who has expressed an interest in them? Are you going to tell them about Jesus? You see, there are many in our pathways, Christian, who are like my sister. They are lonely. They need to feel loved and important. And, it's up to you and I to tell them how special they really are. The teenage prostitute. The drug addict who has contracted AIDS. The dirty, smelly man down the street. The obnoxious co-worker. The young, unmarried mother. The runny nosed, dirty-faced neighborhood kids. They all have a note, and they're handing it to you... ..."do you know anyone who likes me?" Well, do you Christian? "...Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." - Matthew 25:40Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
