CALL YOUR DOCTOR

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto  thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge  Him,
and He shall direct thy paths." - Proverbs 3:5,6

The message is still ringing in my ears.

Several months ago I had contracted a nasty flu bug that was rapidly spreading through my community.  You  know...chills, fever, nausea, fatigue, a general feeling of  "God please call me home I just can't take much more of  this" kind of sickness.

It was beginning to take its toll on me.

After several days of lying around hurting, I decided to  make a visit to my doctor's office.

This was a good move for me.

My doctor, naturally, knew just what to do to make my  aches go away.  She pumped me up with antibiotics,  prescribed some medication and gave me some  suggestions on how to ease my symptoms.

And then her face turned serious.  Through the  expression of seriousness, I saw genuine concern and  compassion in her eyes.  I had told her about waiting  several days before making the trip to her office.  Her  message still rings in my ears today.  It went something  like this...

"Jimmy, don't ever, ever lay around sick and hurting  unnecessarily.  Call your doctor.  There is no reason for  you to be in pain when I am here.  When you ache...call  your doctor."

You know, I hear a lot of that same message from  another doctor in my life...the Lord Jesus...the Great  Physician.

You see, sometimes you and I contract some nasty  bugs in our spiritual lives, as well.  Things that just make  us sick.  Sometimes it's sin, other times it's  discouragement.  Still other times we become sick with  suffering and struggles, trials and hardships.  You know  the type...the "God please call me home I just can't take  much more of this" kind of sickness.

And, what do we do?  Too often we lay around hurting  instead of seeking help.  And it begins to take its toll on our  lives.

Is it about time we visited the doctor's office? Yeah, the  Great Physician has a doctor's office...it's called a prayer  closet.  Tell Him all about your aches this morning, dear  Christian...

...He knows just what to do.  He'll pump you up with  some encouragement, prescribe some joy and peace and  hope, and give you some wonderful suggestions on  easing your pain.

My friend, if you were to take the time this morning to look at His face, I'll tell you what you'd see.  You'd see a  serious expression...with a look of love, concern and  compassion filling His tender eyes.  And, if you were to listen closely with your heart, I'm sure you could hear Him  speaking to you right now...

"My child, don't ever, ever lay around sick and hurting  unnecessarily.  Call your doctor.  There is no reason for  you to be in pain when I am here.  When you ache...call  your doctor."

No appointment is necessary.  The doctor is in.
