#162 "Choose
you this day whom ye will serve...but as for me I
love to play tennis. My
enjoyment of the sport started when I purchased my first
tennis racket from a friend of mine for $5.00, when I was in
9th grade. It looked more like a badminton racket than a
tennis racket, but it got me on the courts for the first
time. I
immediately knew this was something that I could enjoy for
the rest of my life. Tennis
is a great sport for a variety of reasons. It brings
enjoyment to those who really have a heart for it. Of
course, tennis is great exercise, providing one of the top
cardiovascular workouts and burning off an amazing number of
calories per hour. And tennis can be participated in on
several levels - singles, doubles and team play give each
person a variety of options. And,
perhaps my favorite reason of all... ...it
doesn't matter what your skill level is, you can still play
tennis! That's right, whether you're 5 or 85, you can
participate in tennis. You don't need any special skills or
abilities, just a desire to get out on the courts...you'll
learn everything you need to know along the way. Now,
if there is one thing that I have learned about tennis in
the 16 years I have been playing it is this... ...the
player who serves well seldom loses. The service game is the
key to excelling in tennis. My
friend, it's the same for the believer in Christ Jesus - the
person who serves well seldom loses. And,
service to Christ is wonderful for a variety of reasons
similar to those of playing tennis. If you really have a
heart for it, then it will bring much enjoyment to your
life. Of course, serving Christ is great spiritual exercise,
providing one of the top heart workouts and burning off an
amazing number of sins, indifferences and dead weight. And
service can be participated in on a variety of levels -
individually and corporately. And,
perhaps the best reason of all... ...it
doesn't matter what your "skill level" is, you can
still serve the Lord. That's right, whether you're 5 or 85,
Jesus has something special for you to do for His Kingdom.
You don't need any special skills or abilities to serve
Him... ...you
just need a desire to get out on the courts. He'll equip you
and teach you everything you need to know. When
was the last time you stepped out onto the courts of life
and played your heart out for the Lord? Grab
your racket, my friend! Get out there today and encourage
the downtrodden, lift up the hurting, pray for the sick,
provide for the needy, share the Gospel with the lost. Get
out on the courts, Christian. That's where Jesus has called
you to work for His Kingdom. Remember,
the person who serves well seldom loses. Christian,
how's your service game? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
