October 17,
2000 -- Issue #247 "For
whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: Boy,
oh boy, were those ever some heated arguments. I
remember, when my sister and I were teenagers, we often
found ourselves in some rather ugly disputes.
We could argue over just about anything.
Whether it was her turn to take out the trash or I
ate some cookies that she had been saving in the
refrigerator, we knocked heads on more than one occasion.
(Just for the record, we outgrew those arguments and
now get along nicely :-) During
these outbursts one or both of us would end up making some
kind of angry threat.
You know, one of those childish threats like,
"Well, you just wait until you have some cookies in
that refrigerator, I'll eat yours just like you ate
mine!" And
when my sister would pour out one of those threats upon me I
would
counter with... ..."We'll
just see about that!" That
was my way of saying to her, "There is no way that I am
ever going to let that happen."
And
that usually ended the conversation immediately. Throughout
my life I have found that I am not the only one who uses
that phrase, "We'll just see about that!"
Believe it or not, I have found that the Lord Jesus
Himself often conveys that same expression in various
ways... Consider
the time that the doctors told me that I would be unable to
father a child.
"We'll just see about that," I could almost
hear the Lord say.
My wife is only days away from delivering our first
child. What
about when almost everyone wrote off my grandfather as one
who would never be saved and end up dying and going to hell.
"We'll just see about that," you could just
sense Christ Jesus was countering.
At age 84, just 3 months before he passed away, my
grandfather was gloriously saved! And
then there are those times each day of my life that satan
attempts to entice me into sin.
His thinking?
"I'll tempt Jimmy into disobeying God's
instructions."
"We'll just see about that!"
The Lord warns me and empowers me through His Holy
Spirit to overcome the tempter. Oh,
there are countless times that the Lord has used this
expression in my life.
Whether it was the time that I thought I would be
unable to pay my electric bill, or the health problem that
seemed to be on its way to taking its toll - over and over
Jesus comes in and says, "We'll just see about
that!" Christian
what kind of situation are you facing today that has your
back against the wall?
Is there some hardship or difficulty that is
screaming out threats at you right now?
Perhaps some situation is testing your faith.
Or, maybe the devil has threatened to steal your joy
and peace.
The
Lord has a message for that old rascal as he tries to wreak
havoc in your life... ..."We'll just see about that!" Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
