January 17,
2001 -- Issue #300 "Draw
nigh unto God and I
knew something wasn't quite right the moment I looked at my
computer screen this morning. Each
night, when I go to bed, I send out the daily devotional for
the following morning.
Currently, we have just under 1,200 people all over
the world who receive it.
Because it takes about 2 hours to send, I simply
press the "Send" button before retiring for the
night... ...and
the devotional sends while I am asleep. The
following morning I arise and check to make sure the
devotional was sent properly.
Now, the overwhelming majority of times there is no
problem at all.
However, there are exceptions. And
today was one of them. For
one of a dozen reasons, my internet connection was broken
sometime during the distribution of my devotional.
In other words, my computer logged off of the
internet and discontinued sending.
When I checked the status this morning, only about
10% of the devotionals had been sent out properly. And
there, emblazoned boldly across the pop up window on my
computer screen were the words... ..."Your
connection was terminated.
Would you like to re-establish connection?" With
a simple click of the button, my connection was again
established and the remaining devotionals were sent out.
Things got back to normal. Kind
of reminds me of how we all feel sometimes in our
relationship with God.
Sometimes we feel like our "connection" has
been terminated.
Know what I mean?
Those
days when we just don't feel close to the Lord. Now,
there are dozens of reasons why we sometimes feel like our
connection or fellowship with the Father gets broken.
Whether it is neglecting our "quiet time"
with Him each day or committing a sin or skipping church or
just not spending enough time with Him in general, there are
those times when we sense that something just isn't quite
right in our relationship. It's
then, perhaps, we hear the Holy Spirit whisper, "Would
you like to re-establish connection?"
You
see, with a simple prayer, things can get back to normal.
Our Father is a gracious One, always welcoming back
those who may have strayed, even for a short distance away.
He longs to be "connected" with you and is
waiting to hear from you even now. What
about it Christian? Have
you been neglecting your prayer and Bible study?
Is there some sin that you haven't confessed yet?
Anything about your relationship with God that
doesn't seem quite right? Would
you like to re-establish connection? Click
the button of prayer. And things will get back to normal. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
