March 12,
2001 -- Issue #336 "...for
He hath said, One
minute things were going well... ...and
the next they were in a state of distress. My
four month old baby boy, Jacob, was playing in his "exer-saucer,"
unaware of what was about to happen.
An "exer-saucer" is a round walker-type
contraption with an opening in the middle where Jacob
stands, and all kinds of noisemakers and doodads for him to
play with attached around the perimeter. So,
Jacob was playing happily in his exer-saucer as I watched
from just behind my laptop where I was working.
I still manage to get some work done while I take
care of him, but my eyes are always watching, to make sure
he is ok. All
of a sudden, I noticed that he had managed to lodge his
hands down inside the opening where he was standing.
He was having a very difficult time standing upright
as his arms were now pinned in without any room to move.
I could tell by the look on his face that he was
beginning to become frightened.
His quiet whimper confirmed it. Quickly
I got up and headed towards him, calling to him as I went,
"Don't worry, Jacob, I'm coming to help you." I
pulled his small arms out of the tight space and placed them
back where they were supposed to be.
I kissed him on the head and headed back to my seat.
There was a bit of a insecure look on
his face that seemed to call out, "But, daddy,
what if something else happens?" With
a smile and a gentle touch to his cheek, I let him know,
"Don't worry, son... ...I'll
be watching you." You
know, as I thought about that tonight, I realized that what
I had seen play out today as Jacob played in his "exer-saucer"
is exactly what plays out in our lives as believers. Think
about it, sometimes difficulties and hardships come our way
that put us, likewise, in a tight spot.
Kind of makes us feel like our hands and arms are
pinned in and we're without any room to move.
Know what I mean? And
as we struggle with that trial that seems to have us
trapped, our faces show the desperation and fright we feel.
Perhaps a quiet whimper builds inside of us as we
just don't know what to do, where to turn or how to get
through what we are facing. It
is during those times that we can hear a very busy Father,
quickly coming towards us.
We can almost feel his very presence in the room as
He calls, "It's ok, I'm coming to help you." Sometimes
He actually pulls us up out of the difficulty Himself, other
times He shows us how to do it for ourselves, and still
other times He helps us by giving us grace to make it
through.
But, ALWAYS, He comes to us and brings His loving
reassurance into our hearts. Maybe
this morning you are facing one of those difficult times.
Maybe there is something that seems to have
surrounded
you and pinned down your arms that you can't seem to
move.
Are you in a bind today? Listen
closely and I'm sure you can hear the Father whispering to
your heart... ..."Don't worry, I'm coming to help you." Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
