March 19,
2001 -- Issue #340 "...the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us I
remember the old days well. Long
before I bought my first personal computer, I learned how to
type on a typewriter.
It was somewhere around 9th grade in high school that
I took a typing class and learned a skill that has proved to
be invaluable to me through the years. Of
course, as a beginner, I made a LOT of mistakes.
(Still do :-)
And, whenever I made a mistake in my typing, I
reached for a small bottle of... ...Liquid
Paper! For
those of you who have never used a typewriter, Liquid Paper
is a quick drying, white correction fluid that you paint on
with a small applicator to cover your mistakes.
As soon as it dries, you can back up and type over
the area again.
I
used it quite frequently to cover up my mistakes.
But,
covering mistakes wasn't the only thing I used Liquid Paper
for when I was learning to type.
I also used it to cover up stains.
Sometimes the typewritten pages would become smeared.
Or, maybe I would get some dirt or other substance on
my paper before I turned it in.
Whatever the case, I used Liquid Paper to cover up
any kind of unsightly stain that appeared on my work. While
it wasn't a problem during those typing years, Liquid Paper
wasn't an eraser.
It didn't take away the errors and mistakes, it
simply covered them up.
It didn't take away the stains, it only provided a
temporary covering that, in time, would actually fade away.
Now, even though Liquid Paper covered the mistakes
and stains for appearance purposes, they were still there,
just under the surface. Aren't
you glad that the blood of Jesus isn't like Liquid Paper? You
see, under the Old Covenant, there were repeated blood
sacrifices to continue COVERING the sins of the people.
These blood sacrifices were a foreshadowing of what
was to come with Christ, but they did nothing more than
COVER the sins.
They were like Liquid Paper, they placed a covering
over the stains and mistakes, but they didn't take them
away.
The sins were always still there, just below the
surface. But,
then, when Jesus came and died on the Cross, His blood
didn't just serve as God's bottle of Liquid Paper.
The blood of Jesus didn't just COVER our sins, His
blood actually CLEANSED our sins!
He erased our mistakes and sins, taking then away
forever.
He removed the stains and made us white as snow. No,
most certainly, the blood of Jesus isn't Liquid Paper. Christian,
when was the last time that you thanked the Lord for His
forgiveness?
When was the last time you gave glory and praise to
the One who corrects your mistakes and removes the stains of
your sins? Right now seems like a good time, doesn't it? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
