April 10,
2001 -- Issue #351 "In
all thy ways acknowledge Him, This
is the first year in quite some time that my wife wasn't
involved in the Jr. / Sr. Play at the high school where she
teaches. For
the past 7 years, my wife helped direct the plays because
she was the class sponsor. Occassionally,
I would go up during the rehearsals and would kind of
chuckle at some of the things that you would hear her
saying... "CUT!"
Whenever something wasn't right, she would call out
"Cut" to stop the actors in their tracks.
It meant something needed to be changed before
continuing. And
there was "PLACES EVERYONE."
She would say this to remind the various students
involved in the play to take their assigned place.
If everyone wasn't working together as a team, then
the play didn't proceed smoothly.
Sometimes
I would hear her call out, "LIGHTS."
Of course, she wanted the stage lights turned on to
focus in on something of importance, or to simply illuminate
the area so things could be seen more clearly. Occassionally,
my wife could be heard saying, "SPEAK UP."
When one of the students wasn't talking loud enough
to be heard, she would encourage them to speak loudly enough
to be noticed and understood by those onlooking. She
used all kinds of terms and spoke to each of the students
involved.
In fact, she directed the movements of EVERYONE.
When they listened, things came off without a hitch
and were exactly what they were supposed to be.
When they didn't listen, things became a mess.
The key was to simply obey the instructions of the
director. You
know, life has been referred to many times as a play...with
all the world its stage.
And, if you think about it, we, as believers in
Christ Jesus, have a "Director" who calls the
shots for our lives. You
see, God Himself is our Director.
The Bible says that He will "direct our
steps."
And, if you listen closely even today, you'll hear
Him saying some familiar things... "CUT!"
Whenever something isn't right, He calls out
"Cut" to stop us in our tracks.
It means that we have committed a sin or are about to
give in to temptation.
Maybe there is a flaw in our character or a bad
attitude or
some mistake we are about to make.
God speaks to our heart to point out something that
needs to be changed before we continue on. What
about "PLACES EVERYONE."
God says this to remind us that EACH of us has an
assigned place in life to
stand in.
He has special plans for each of our lives - things
that only we can do.
The "body of Christ" is made up of many
different people, with many different abilities - and it
takes contributions from each of us to make sure the Kingdom
of God proceeds smoothly. Sometimes
we hear Him call out "LIGHTS."
Of course, He wants us to turn on our lights to focus
others in on Christ.
We are to be the "lights of the world" to
illuminate the darkness that others may see more clearly the
wonderful story of our Savior. Occassionally,
God even can be heard saying, "SPEAK UP."
When we don't speak loudly enough to be heard above
the noise of this world, He encourages us to share a word
from Him to those who are onlooking. God
uses all kinds of terms and He speaks to EACH of His
children.
In fact, He directs the movements of all of us who
belong to Him.
When we listen, things come off without a hitch and
we become exactly who He designed us to be.
When we don't listen, things become a mess.
Amen? The
key is to simply obey the instructions of the Director! Christian,
if you listen closely this morning, I'm sure you can hear
the voice of the Lord speaking to your heart.
What is He saying to you today? CUT? PLACES
EVERYONE? LIGHTS? SPEAK
UP? - Proverbs 3:6 Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
