April 12,
2001 -- Issue #353 "Come
unto Me, Sometimes
it happens because of what I eat. Other
times because of how much I eat! :-) Whether
it is because of how spicey or acidic the food is or because
of the amount of the food I eat, from time to time I get a
case of acid reflux.
Yep, good 'ol heartburn. Now,
I don't know a lot about heartburn, but I have seen enough
advertisements to know how to get relief from it.
For years and years (and years!) ROLAIDS has been
telling us that it holds the key to immediate relief from
heartburn.
In fact, their ads continue to promote their
message... ..."How
do you spell RELIEF?
R-O-L-A-I-D-S." And,
sure enough, Rolaids does provide relief from the pain and
discomfort associated with heartburn. You
know, a lot of times our hearts burn because of things other
than the foods we eat.
Yep, our SPIRITUAL hearts burn because of all kinds
of things.
Things like sin, worry, fear, pride, hurt feelings,
disappointment, discouragement, depression, and a host of
other burdens.
These things cause us pain and discomfort, right? So,
how to you spell RELIEF for these symptoms? J-E-S-U-S,
that's how! That's
right, when we are suffering from sin, Jesus offers relief -
He died on the cross to provide that forgiveness.
If we are worried or fearful, He again is our relief
as the Prince of Peace.
No one mends the broken heart of disappointment,
discouragement and depression like the blessed Savior.
He is relief from any kind of hurt and pain and
discomfort that plagues our life.
He tells us Himself to "come unto me all ye that
labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." That
word "rest" means "relief." When
you have PHYSICAL heartburn, you reach for the Rolaids.
But, when you have SPIRITUAL heartburn, you find that
Jesus is the One reaching for you! What
about you, Christian?
Does your heart burn this morning?
Is there some sin in your life that has you in
chains?
Maybe some circumstance or situation that has you
worried or fearful?
Could there be some stumbling block that has you
discouraged or disappointed?
Does your heart burn with some kind of pain and
discomfort? Chances
are, one of these things applies to YOUR life this morning.
And, you probably wonder, "How do you spell
Relief?" J-E-S-U-S. Relief is only a prayer away. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
