April 16,
2001 -- Issue #355 "And
the multitude said, This is Jesus Call it the
biggest oversight in history. I still
can't believe that I did it. But, I did. A couple of
years ago my only aunt passed away. Naturally,
my wife and I went to the visitation in the neighboring town
where my aunt had lived the last several years of her life.
Since neither she, nor any other members of our
family had a church home, we asked my pastor to perform the
funeral service.
Naturally, he went with us that night to the
visitation at the funeral home. We arrived
at the funeral home and walked in.
One of the first people that I saw was my uncle (my
deceased aunt's brother) who I had not seen in about 10
years.
I walked quickly up to him and said hello.
Then, I did a strange thing.
I said... ..."I'd
like to introduce you to my pastor, Duane Smith." They shook
hands.
And then they looked at me.
Both had rather odd looks on their faces, almost
looks of disbelief, like I had forgotten something
important.
There was a moment of silence and then my pastor and
my uncle kind of blurted out at the same time... ..."Aren't
you going to introduce your wife!" Ooooops.
For whatever reason (I still haven't gotten it
figured out) I forgot to introduce my lovely wife, Paula, to
my uncle.
He had never met her and naturally was expecting an
introduction.
Instead of introducing the most important person in
my life, I overlooked her completely.
Yep, you can call it the biggest oversight in
history. Well, make
that the SECOND biggest oversight in history.
The biggest oversight in history is when we fail to
introduce others to THE most important person in our lives,
the Lord Jesus Christ. You see,
there are many occasions for introductions.
We introduce new co-workers, new neighbors and
acquaintances to other folks we know.
We introduce our friends to our family members.
We introduce visitors to other church members. But, how
often do we introduce others to Jesus? Are we like
myself at the funeral home that night...overlooking the most
important introduction we can make? What about you, Christian? What about TODAY? Will you introduce someone to the Savior of the world? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
