April 18,
2001 -- Issue #356 "For
whosoever shall keep the whole law, It
doesn't happen very often. In
fact, it has NEVER happened to me. I'm
talking about a PERFECT GAME in bowling.
As I sat in the snack area at the local bowling alley
waiting on my dad to arrive to bowl a few games, I naturally
thought about the dream of a perfect game.
A perfect game for you folks who don't know much
about bowling, is a game consisting of nothing but strikes
for a total score of 300 points. A
strike is when you toss the ball down the alley and it
knocks over all 10 pins awaiting at the end of the alley. Do
this 12 straight times and you'll achieve perfection. Miss
one single pin and the perfect game is gone.
Like
I said, it is nothing more than a DREAM for me.
My highest game is a mere 212 points.
I fall WAY short of the perfect game. But,
there ARE folks who have achieved perfection.
In fact, it has happened several times at this very
bowling alley. That
is, there are those who have achieved perfection in BOWLING.
Now, in life, that's a different story. You
see, the Bible tells us that we all fall short of God's
mark.
Why?
Because we miss a few (alot!) of pins in our lives.
The book of James tells us that if we miss even one
pin, then our perfect game is gone.
We fall WAY short! And
so the thought of a PERFECT life is more than just a dream,
it's an impossibility.
We all sin and we all fall short of the glory of God.
We all are separated from God because of our sins and
are bound for hell as a consequence of the things we say, do
and think. HOWEVER,
there is One person who HAS "bowled the perfect
LIFE."
His name is Jesus. You
see, Jesus knocked all the pins down.
He didn't miss a single thing.
He never sinned.
He never thought a bad thought.
Never did a bad deed.
Never said a wrong word.
Jesus was perfect.
And
because He lived a perfect life, He was able to die a
perfect death as the perfect sacrifice for all of our sins. You
see, because Jesus knocked all of the pins down so to speak,
He is able to take our place for all of the misses in our
own lives. You
might look at it this way.
When God looks at the final scorecard, He doesn't see
our score... ...He
sees the score of Jesus! Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
