April 24,
2001 -- Issue #359 "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." - James 4:7b Satan
comes at us in all kinds of different ways, doesn't he? Take
for instance what happened to me tonight. My
wife and I went out to eat at our favorite Mexican
restaurant.
We entered the restaurant and were soon ushered to
our table.
My wife was seated first, then our baby boy was
carefully put in his position and I was the last to sit
down. And
immediately after sitting down, I knew satan would be at
work. Directly
across from where I was sitting, in plain view, was a young
lady with very long legs and a very short pair of shorts on.
She was stretched out like she was taking a nap on
the bench. I
looked at my wife and said, "I can see that satan is at
work."
He'd like nothing more than me to take a look.
He'd like nothing more than for me to take a look and
think some thoughts and so forth and so on. I
did take a look...I took a look at my beautiful wife.
And I took a look towards heaven and I said aloud,
"I'll not give into temptation!" Want
to know what happened?
Almost immediately, this young lady got up and
left... ...and
she didn't come back. Resist
the devil and he will flee from you! Christian,
satan is on the prowl.
He wants to tempt us in all kinds of ways.
Sometimes he uses scantily dressed woman, other times
an opportunity to cheat without getting caught.
He tempts us through television and movies and music.
He tries to entice us to tell "little white
lies" and off-color jokes and spread some gossip
disguised as prayer requests.
Satan
wants us to take a closer look at the bait he has planted
strategically across from where we are at.
He's got something in plain view right now, hoping
we'll be fleshly enough to give in. But,
the Bible gives us a wonderful promise:
When we resist satan, He must leave our presence!
Oh, he may nag us a while and he may come back again,
but if we resist his temptation, the temptation will get up
out of its seat and leave the building! The
next time satan encourages you to take a closer look at
temptation... ...take
a look above instead! And tell satan, "I'll not give into temptation!" Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
