April 30,
2001 -- Issue #363 "For
our conversation is in Heaven; Friday
afternoon at 3:00 p.m. I set out with a lot of wonderful
plans... ...but
only one goal. My
goal was to get back home. You
see, last Friday, my wife and I, along with our baby boy
Jacob, set out for a 4 1/2 hour journey to our former
pastor's home.
We had planned a nice visit with our former pastor,
his wife and their teenage daughter In
fact, we had a lot of wonderful plans. We
went to the St. Louis Zoo and had a great time looking at
some wild and exotic animals.
(My wife swears she saw some of my relatives in a few
of those cages :-)
We did a bit of shopping - after all, if there is a
Wal-Mart within a 2 hour drive, we'll end up there sooner or
later!
And, we went to church and worshipped the Lord Jesus
Christ together. Mainly
though, we just enjoyed each other's company.
It was a wonderful visit, sitting around reminiscing
and catching up.
The fellowship is always great with these guys.
Duane and Denise went to great lengths to ensure we
had an enjoyable stay in their home. And
we did. But,
like I said, I had only one goal.
And that goal was to get back home.
We anticipated the trip.
We enjoyed the trip.
But, all along the way, I knew where I wanted to end
up and that was back at home.
We had wonderful accommodations, but there's just no
place like home. You
know, life as a Christian is much the same.
I have many plans in this life... ...but
only one goal. I'm
looking forward to going home. Christian,
there are many things that we can enjoy while we are passing
along the roads of this life.
Fellowshipping with other believers, exploring God's
creation, ministering the Gospel to the needy - I mean
the list is a mile long of all the things that we can
enjoy here on earth. And
we can experience the abundant life in Christ here.
But, there is that one goal that lies ever ahead of
us.
We can anticipate the trip and enjoy the trip, but
all along the way there should be that longing to get home.
Despite the best accommodations this world has to
offer us, there's just no place like home. Christian,
are you longing for that day?
Are you longing for the journey to wind down and the
long trip to draw to a close?
Are you ready to see Jesus? I
don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to that day.
That day when sickness will pass away.
When tears will be wiped dry.
When loved ones will be reunited.
When sin will be removed.
When peace and joy will reign.
And when the One who has the scars on his hands and
feet will be seen face to face. I'll
say it again.
There's just no place like home. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
