AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE
- Part 5

"Choose you this day whom ye will serve...but as for me
and my house, we will serve the LORD." - Joshua 24:15

WE WILL SERVE THE LORD...WITH COMMITMENT

"Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooowwwl"

No, it wasn't the sound of a lion or tiger that I heard growling last night as I lay in my bed. It wasn't even the sound of the neighbor's dog growling in the night air. Nope. It was something different that I heard let out that somewhat ominous growl...

...it was my stomach!

Just shortly after I got cozy and comfortable in my bed, my stomach began to growl. Hunger pangs shot through me and I could almost taste the leftover chicken that was packed away in the refrigerator. I really, really wanted something to eat, but I didn't really want to get up to go into the kitchen to prepare it.

I glanced over at my sweet wife asleep beside me and, for just a second, entertained the idea of waking her to see if she would mind fixing me a late night snack...

...but I quickly dismissed that idea as a bad one. Not a real smart move to awaken a resting woman , at midnight, to tell her that you are too lazy to make your own snack, but would she mind? ;-)

No, I decided that wouldn't work out very well.

So, I just lay there.

Hungry.

But, not hungry enough to get up from my cozy and comfortable position to do something about it.

Now, if the refrigerator where the chicken was stored had been next to my bed last night, I'd have eaten. I'd have eaten alot. ;-) Why? Because then it would have been convenient for me to eat. Then it would not have required much effort on my part...

...then I wouldn't have been forced to leave my comfort zone in order to do so.

My friend, if you are a born again Christian then your spiritual stomach is going to growl because of a hunger for the Lord Jesus. Really. It will. You'll have a genuine hunger for living a separated, Christ-centered life. You'll be hungry for the things of God. You'll really, really want to satisfy those divine desires. The question is...

...how are you going to respond?

You see, there are really only two choices. You can either stay in your cozy and comfortable position, or you can get up and do something about it. You can live your life in Christ out of convenience, only when it doesn't cost too much or require too much to live for Him. Or, you can do what Peter, James, John and the others did...

...drop everything for the sake of the call.

What about it, Christian? Do you live for Jesus when you find the time or it doesn't require too much? Do you find yourself obeying Him when it's convenient, only to do things your own way when His will is different than your own? What is that one area of your life that you just haven't surrendered to Him? _____________ Go ahead, you know what it is. Fill in the blank.

Or, are you holding nothing back? Have you come to that place where nothing is off limits...not your entertainment, not your time, not your money, not anything?

I am convinced that Jesus is looking for those who will get up out of their spiritual beds and satisfy that hunger for Him. I am convinced that He is wanting His people to stop living lives of half-hearted obedience and part-time commitment. He longs for those who will rise up out of the comfortable and cozy beds to take up a cross full of splinters and follow Him.

"Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooowwwl" your spiritual stomach is rumbling inside of you.

Well, what are you going to do? Just lay there...

...or, are you hungry enough for Jesus to do something about it today?

Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ,"
