-- Issue #376 "For
it is appointed unto man once to die; We all have
an appointment... An old
legend tells of a merchant in Baghdad who one day sent his
servant to the market.
Before very long the servant came back, pale and
trembling.
In great agitation he said to his master, "Down
in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd,
and when I turned around... ...I saw it
was DEATH." "She
looked at me and made a threatening gesture.
Master, please lend me your horse, for I must hasten
to avoid her.
I will ride to Samarra and there I will hid, and
DEATH will not find me." The
merchant lent him his horse, and the servant galloped away
in great haste.
Later the
merchant went down to the market and saw DEATH standing in
the crowd.
He asked her, "Why did you frighten my servant
this morning?
Why di you make a threatening gesture?" "That
was not a threatening gesture," DEATH said.
"It was only a bit of surprise.
I was astonished to see him in Baghdad... ...for I
have an appointment with him tonight in Samarra." We all have
an appointment with death.
We do not know know when that appointment will come,
but we are assured that it has been made.
We cannot run from it or hide from it.
There is none who can escape it.
Even for the young, it is never far away. Fortunately,
we do not have to fear death.
Jesus Christ died to bring us eternal life.
Yes, someday physical death is coming... ...but
praise God there is life everlasting on the other side. Your
appointment has been made.
There is nothing you can do to change it. But,
the option of what happens after your appointment is up to
you.
Have you accepted the Jesus as your LORD and SAVIOR -
confessing and forsaking your sins, and turning to Christ
completely? Are you ready to meet the Lord should He call today? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
