TRUSTING THE CONDUCTOR

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths." - Proverbs 3:5, 6

You accept your ticket.

You board the train.

You travel down the track.

You enter a long, dark tunnel.

What do you do now?

Do you panic and assume the conductor isn't paying attention? Do you get angry at the conductor because things got dark? Do you become discouraged thinking the conductor doesn't care? Do you turn in your ticket and jump off the train because it's dark around you?

What do you do now?

Chances are, you do none of those things.  Instead, you simply trust the conductor to get you through the tunnel.  You stay on board.  You stay on track.  You keep going even though it's dark all around you.  You look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

The reason I ask you about this is to make a simple comparison.    Your Christian life is very much like the scenario that I just described.  When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you accepted a ticket.  A ticket for eternal life.  And you boarded that great train that will someday take you to Heaven.  And you began traveling down the track of life, headed for your destination.

And sometimes you enter those long, dark tunnels.  Trials and tests and tribulations come into your life.  Hard times and difficulties spring up before you.  It's dark all around you sometimes.  Maybe you're in a tunnel today.  If not, you will be sometime soon.  It's a fact of life.  The question is...

What do you do now?  When you face those dark and difficult times, what do you do?

Do you panic and assume the Great Conductor isn't paying attention?  Do you get angry at the Great Conductor because He let things get dark?  Do you become discouraged thinking the Great Conductor doesn't care?  Do you turn in your ticket, jump off the train and head back to the worldly life because it's dark around you?

Or, do you simply trust the Great Conductor to get you through the tunnel?

What happens when we go through trials?  When we face them (and we will) may we always stay on board.  May we always stay on track and keep going even when it's dark all around us.  May we stay faithful to Jesus Christ no matter what.

Christian, are you going through a tunnel today?  What  will you do?  Will you turn in your ticket and jump off the train...

...or will you trust your Conductor?
