FLICKERING LIGHTS

"Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel,
but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are
in the house.  Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father which is in Heaven." - Matthew 5:15-16

On and off.  On and off.  On and off.

When my wife and I arrive home after dark, we press the button inside our vehicle to activate our electric garage door opener.  Slowly the garage door raises and, at the same time, a light inside the garage comes on.

And then, it goes off again.

On and off.  On and off.  On and off.  It flickers over and over again.  You see,  the light has some kind of problem, perhaps a loose wire, that is causing it to come on and then go off.

Now, what is supposed to happen is the light is supposed to come on and stay on.  It's purpose is to light up the darkness, so we can see.  It is designed to help us find our way, instead of stumbling around in the dark. It is to light our way, that we might be able to make it into our house.  It is supposed to come on and stay on.

But, because something isn't quite right, it flickers.

On and off.  On and off.  On and off.

You know, as I thought about this faulty light, it reminded me that, sadly, many Christians are quite similar.  God wants them to activate the light within, but instead their light goes...

...On and off.  On and off.  On and off.

What is supposed to happen, my friend, is the light inside of us is supposed to come on and stay on.  It's purpose is to light up the darkness of this world that those around us might see.  Christ has designed us to help others find their way, instead of stumbling around in the dark.  Our lights are supposed to come on and stay on.

Christian, is your light shining today?  Are you "letting your light shine that others may see your good works and glorify your Father"?  Is it brightening up the darkness around you...

...or is something not quite right as your light flickers on and off.

When someone arrives at the "garage" of your life, will there be enough light for them to see Jesus?
