March 7,
2002 -- Issue #539 "If
we confess our sins, He is faithful I couldn't
believe my eyes. I found
myself walking into a large video library.
It was similar to a regular library, only instead of
books, this library had shelves filled with video tapes.
Hundreds, even thousands of video tapes lined the
walls and halls of this place.
I couldn't believe there were so many videos
available. It quickly
became clear to me that these weren't ordinary videos.
EVERY video in the place was actual footage of MY
life.
Someone had videotaped my every move for all 31 years
of my life and had every minute catalogued in this library.
Nothing was missed, but rather everything that I had
ever done was available on the countless videos in this
room. I couldn't
believe my eyes. But, the
real shock came when I checked out the titles of some of the
videos.
Shame filled my heart when I read titles like,
"October 12, 1974, Age 4, Stole a stuffed teddy bear
from a friends house."
Then, there was "March 22, 1980, Age 10, Cheated
on a math test."
It didn't stop there, "June 4, 1985, Age 15,
Became drunk with alcohol." I couldn't
believe my eyes. Oh, but
these weren't the end of the library.
There were titles everywhere.
Titles like, "May 7, 1990, Age 20, Lusted after
a sorority girl."
And "May 8, 1990, Age 20, Cursed out a
co-worker."
And these
weren't just isolated dates and activities, there were
videos for EVERY day of my life.
In fact, there were dozens of videos for every day of
my life, chronicling my every move! I couldn't
believe my eyes. It was then
that the compilation series caught my eyes.
Apparently there were so many occassions of these
events that they were put together on a "greatest
hits" video collection!
I saw titles like, "Lies I Have Told - Volumes
1-20."
There were "Filthy Movies I Have Watched"
and "Ungodly Music I Have Listened To."
The shelves were filled with video collections like,
"Times I was Disrespectful To My Parents,"
"Friends I Betrayed," "Times I Cheated My
Employer," "Gossip I Have Told" and two
startling collections entitled simply, "The Seven
Deadly Sins Exposed" and "The 10 Commandments
Broken." I bowed my
head in shame.
Could it be possible that I had really done all of
these things?
And yet, here were dates, times, titles and actual
video capturing me in the act.
There was no denying it.
I was guilty of all of these things. I wanted to
leave, but something inside of me prompted me to pop one of
the videos into a nearby VCR.
I was a bit hesitant to watch myself doing such evil,
but the urge was so strong that I placed a nearby video into
the VCR and pressed PLAY. The video
began to play, but the screen was blank!
How odd.
Somehow the footage was gone.
I grabbed another video, placed it in the VCR and
again pressed PLAY.
It too was blank. I tried
video after video and they were all blank! I couldn't
believe my eyes. How could
these videos all be blank.
I had done these things.
I knew I was guilty and yet the evidence had been
destroyed.
The videos were all blank! It was then
I noticed a video that was off to itself.
It seemed to have a glow about it.
I quickly went over to the isolated video and popped
it in the VCR.
As it entered the VCR I noticed the title of this
video as it began to play... ..."The
Day I Accepted Christ As My Savior." I watched
as I went down the aisle and knelt down to pray and asked
Jesus to forgive me of my sins.
I watched as a changed person, a forgiven and freed
person, stood up and walked back to the pew. It was then
that I realized why all of those videos were blank.
Jesus had erased each of them when I accepted His
forgiveness of my sins.
He took
that footage of all of my sins and transgressions and
destroyed the evidence against me by covering it with His
blood and cleansing me of it all.
The only footage that remained was of that important
decision I made when I decided to trust in Him. Do you have such a scene to watch from your life? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
