March 13,
2002 -- Issue #543 "Nevertheless
I have somewhat against thee, A few days
ago, my wife and I were at our second home for the
evening... ...Wal-Mart.
:o) And as we
walked through the aisles and aisles of stuff that Wal-Mart
has, we came upon a display of beautiful mirrors.
They were large, oversized wall mirrors.
Each was adorned in exquisite, golden colored borders
that shone brightly in the light. They
immediately caught the eye of each person that walked by.
And, judging from the empty spaces in the display,
folks were buying them up. As we
walked by, I noticed a lady looking with wonder at these
mirrors.
She marvelled at their appearance.
And she walked around to the front of the display and
took a look at the price. And I heard
her say to her friend, "It's beautiful, but it's not
worth it." She looked
at that tag, and said "It's not worth that price.
It costs too much."
You know,
there are many things that have a tag attached at too great
a cost for us to pay. There is
indifference and neglect towards our Bible study and prayer
time each day.
It doesn't matter if it is a career or a hobby or a
list of things-to-do, whatever it is that keeps us from our
"quiet time" with the Lord each day is too great a
price to pay.
It's not worth it. What about
our testimony?
Do we destroy it because of gossip or a lazy work
ethic or a bad attitude or a dirty look while waiting in the
checkout line with that blinking light or when we show our
selfishness and pride?
Is it ruined because of a pet sin or an unkind act or
because we don't like someone or because we tell a lie to
keep us out of trouble or to avoid embarassment?
Whatever it is that we trade off for our testimony,
"it's not worth that price.
It costs too much." It's not worth it. What about
our evangelism?
What about our personal witnessing and soul-winning?
Do we avoid telling others about our faith in Jesus
because we feel uncomfortable or are afraid they'll laugh or
feel we might lose a friend or afraid of the consequences of
our workplace?
Whatever it is that we allow to keep us silent when
folks around us are dying and going to hell, it's not worth
it. Is there
something that we have allowed to become more important than
our relationship with God?
Has a job or recreation or entertainment or a
relationship or ill will caused us to spend less time with
Jesus Christ and more time in the things of the world?
If so, my friend, it's not worth it. Yes, that
sin, that thing that has caught our eye on the aisle of our
lives may be beautiful, it may loom large on our walls, it
may be adorned in gold and cry out for our attention, but
Child of God check the price tag that is attached, the cost
is too high... ...it's not
worth it! Check your
life today, Christian.
Are you walking in an intimate, sold-out relationship
with the Son of God?
If not, it's time to surrender that last stronghold
to Him. Whatever keeps you from being 100% committed to the
Lord Jesus is too high a price to pay.
So remember these words throughout the day... ...It's not worth it! Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
