March 14,
2002 -- Issue #544 "Not
by works of righteousness which we have done, Chances
are you've either done it yourself, or someone has done it
to you. I
know I've been both the culprit and the victim. You
can probably say the same. I'm
talking about the old "Wash Me" message that seems
to find its way etched into the dirty windows of our
automobiles.
It always kind of tickles me when I return to my
covered-in-dirt vehicle to find that someone has taken their
finger and written a friendly reminder to me that I need to
wash my vehicle.
Due to neglect, it has become soiled with dirt, mud,
dust and all kinds of grime. "Wash
Me." Of
course, the message is designed to have come from the
automobile itself, thus the "Me" part of it.
It's like the vehicle is saying, "I'm tired of
being dirty - would you do something about it?"
"I can't clean myself, but I know that you can -
and I want the dirt to be removed, so... ...wash
me." And
sometimes it's almost irrisistible not to take our finger
and leave that message in the dirt on the windows of OTHER
people's cars.
Right?
You
know, dirty VEHICLES are one thing, but dirty LIVES are
another.
I
wonder, what about our lives - do you think that other
people could see enough dirt on us that they could easily
write "Wash Me" by running their fingers across
us?
In other words, have our lives become dirtied by sin?
Has there been some neglect that has left us soiled
with dirt, mud, dust and all kinds of sinful grime? If
we look close, could we see that spiritual message crying
out from our lives..."Wash me"?
Maybe this morning it's time to turn to the Lord and
say to Him, "I'm tired of being dirty - would you do
something about it?"
Perhaps today is the time to cry out to Christ Jesus,
"I can't clean myself, but I know you can - and I want
the dirt to be removed, so please... ...wash
me." You
see, there are all kinds of dirt that might be covering us
even as you read this devotional:
gossip, little white lies, lust, indifference, a lack
of spending enough time in our Bible reading, prayer, soul
winning, witnessing, service...not giving our very best to
the Lord...having the wrong attitudes and motivations - ALL
KINDS OF GRIME.
And it doesn't take long to build up on us like a
dirty vehicle.
Christian,
don't wait for those around you to see all of the dirt piled
up.
Don't wait until someone has to remind you to get
things cleaned up.
Instead, go the Great Car Wash and let Jesus cleanse
your life.
Right now you can say two of the sweetest words that
Jesus Christ can ever hear from your lips if you choose to
say them.
And they are... ...WASH
ME. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
