April 29,
2002 -- Issue #568 "As
the hart panteth after the water brooks, Over
and over and over again it happens. Almost
every single one of us has seen it first hand.
You give a toddler a nice present and what does he
do? He tosses it down and is completely satisfied with the
wrapping paper. Yep,
you give a toddler a birthday present or a gift for
Christmas or something just because you want to offer him a
treat and he spends no time with it, but rather is content
to play with the box. How many
times have you seen a little one set aside a $50 toy to play
with those styrofoam packing pieces? He is offered something
of great value, and is pleased instead to settle for
something far less. We are far
too easily pleased. You know,
we adults are far too easily pleased as well. We
are often content to go to church a few times each week,
pray a few minutes each day and meet with God on a very
limited basis. We are
often satisfied with being God's acquaintance instead of
God's intimate friend.
We are pleased to have a basic understanding of God
rather than possessing a thirst for knowing Him deeper. We are far
too easily pleased. Where did
we ever get so satisfied with spending so little time with
our Father? Now, if you
are someone who truly spends quality time with your Creator
you can just go ahead and skip this devotional and wait for
tomorrow.
But, if
you're like most of us, it's time to start doing some
"soul searching."
How much
time do you spend with the Father each day?
Each week?
I mean "quality" time where you truly seek
His face and meet with Him in a personal, intimate way where
you know you've had fellowship with God? When it
comes to the time you spend with the Lord, is there any
other relationship that could survive on that amount of
quantity and quality? Could your marriage survive if your
time with your spouse consisted of what you spend with the
Father?
Could your relationship with your best friend
survive?
Your relationship with your children? I'll ask
again, where did we ever get so satisfied with spending so
little time with our Father? Christian,
there is nothing on your schedule today that could possibly
be more important than seeking God's face. There is nothing
so pressing that it should be a higher priority than
entering the presence of the Lord in prayer. I've said
it before and I'll say it again, "If you're too busy
for Christ, you're too busy!" It's time
we stop being pleased with the wrapping paper and the box
and the styrofoam packing of Christianity, and start longing
for something deeper and more intimate and more fulfilling
with our Lord. It's time
we start spending time with the Father. In that, we should be pleased. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
