May 27,
2002 -- Issue #577 "...this
do in remembrance of Me." Memorial
Day.
That one day a year when we pause for a moment from
our busy lives and remember those loved ones who have passed
on. For
me, I recall fond memories of my grandparents. All
of which I will be reunited with one day because they died
having accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. I
think of the days of happiness that were spent with them and
I think about that "glad reunion day" that is
forthcoming when I will see them again. And,
inevitably, I somehow find myself out at the cemetery,
memorial flowers in hand.
I'll clean off a few weeds at the gravesite, remove
the flowers from last year, and replace them with newer
signs that I haven't forgotten them. I
loved my grandparents dearly, and certainly haven't
forgotten them. The
ritual at the gravesite is just a formality.
I know they aren't there.
They are with the Lord.
The headstone just a reminder of their life here.
They are experiencing a new, eternal life now. And
someday I'll join them. But,
it's Memorial Day.
And that's what we do on Memorial Day.
We memorialize those who passed on. So,
it's a great day to remember our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Maybe
think about the fond memories we have of accepting Jesus.
Perhaps we'll take the time to reflect upon the many
times He has seen us through difficulties, or recall with
great joy the times of blessing upon our lives. But,
there is no gravesite to visit.
No tomb to place flowers upon, no headstone to pull
weeds from around. He
isn't there!
He has risen from the dead. He IS eternal life.
And He is preparing a place for those who love Him. And
someday I'll join Him. But,
for now, I remember.
I remember the loved ones who have passed on.
And I remember what Jesus did on the cross for me.
And for you. And
I grow one more day closer to the time when I will no longer
do things "in remembrance of," but will instead be
reunited with my loved ones, and see Jesus, my blessed
Savior, face to face. Memorial
Day is but a down payment on Reunion Day. It's
a look back... ...but it's also a look ahead. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
