June 20,
2002 -- Issue #583 "I
will run the way of thy commandments," We
walked into the fast food restaurant for a quick pit stop as
we made our way home from a short overnight trip. As
Jacob (our 19 month) and I waited for Paula (my wife and
Jacob's mommy :o) to return to the area, Jacob explored the
various booths and seats in the dining area. Then,
he saw his mommy returning.
And he knew that she was coming to get him to load
him back in our vehicle as we made our way home. And
he didn't want any part of it. So,
what do you think he did?
He began running away. Yep,
he took off "lickity split" as my grandma used to
say.
He headed in the opposite direction just as fast as
he could go.
You'd have thought he was in the Toddler Olympics,
participating in a dash. And
judging from the look on his face, he thought that he was
getting away. Never
even saw the trouble coming. And
he tripped over the high chair as his foot got tangled with
the leg of the chair. And
down he went.
Ouch. You
know, if we're not careful, we end up doing the same thing.
We trying running away from the Father. Think
about it.
We see the Father coming.
And we know that He has something for us to do. Maybe
He wants us to share our faith with someone, and we're
uncomfortable about doing it.
Or, perhaps He wants us to mend fences with someone
that we are angry at -- and we are too prideful to do it.
It could be that He has some specific plans for our
lives that are going to require us to come out of our
comfort zone. And
we don't want any part of it. It
happens, if we're not careful.
The Father comes to us and wants us to take a stand
against some sin that the church has become tolerant of, or
he wants us to be the "peculiar" one at our
workplace who doesn't go with the world's way of doing
things.
Maybe there is some "pet" sin that we
struggle with that He is telling us to walk away from
completely.
Could
be just about anything. And
what happens when we hear the Father coming to us -- when we
don't want to give in – when we want to do our own thing
and go our own way? We
begin running from Him. Yep,
we take off "lickity split"
and head in the opposite direction.
Maybe we even think we're getting away with
disobeying the Father. And
we don't see the disaster waiting to happen. I'm
telling you the truth today, when you run from the Father,
sooner or later, you're going to trip and fall.
Ouch.
Christian,
do you see the Father coming towards YOU today?
What is it that you are running from?
What is it that you know He is instructing you to do,
or not to do? Listen closely -- what is He saying to you
today? You've
got two options.
You can run from the Father and disobey His
commandments.
Or, you can echo the words of the Psalmist... "I will run the way of thy commandments," -- Psalm 119:32 Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
