June 27,
2002 -- Issue #587 "For
ye are bought with a price: For
a long time now, I have collected sports cards. It
started when I was about 16 years old.
My SISTER (of all people!) brought home some baseball
cards and told me that they might be worth some money. I
went to the local grocery store and bought a price guide to
see what the value of the various cards was listed as. And
I've been collecting them on and off ever since. My
current interest is golf cards.
Since I began playing golf about a year ago, I have
gotten interested in collecting a few golf cards here and
there. I
bought a pack of golf cards at a Target store while on a
short trip last week.
And I pulled out a card that actually has small
strips of two different professional golfer's shirts
embedded in the card. Not
a bad find! So,
I found myself buying another price guide to see how much
the card was valued at. While
my interest in cards isn't solely monetary, I do enjoy
seeing how much the cards I have are "worth."
And in order to do that, I consult a price guide that
keeps up-to date on the current prices of the majority of
the popular cards. Did
you know that there is a price guide for just about
everything?
I mean, there are price guides for Barbie dolls, Hot
Wheels cars, coins, stamps, toys, antiques, automobiles,
plates, furniture --- just about anything you can imagine. There
is also a price guide for humans. Did
you know that? There
is actually a price guide that you can look up the value of
people inside. It's
called the Bible. You
see, the Word of God records YOUR value and MY value.
It tells us that "God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life." (John
3:16).
It also lists, " while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us." (Romans 8:12) Want
to know
your value?
Want to see what you are "worth"?
Check the price guide.
Look it up in the Word of God.
And you'll find that you are loved by the Father so
much -- your value to Him is so great -- that He would send
His very Son to die on the cross to pay for your sins. In
order words, you are PRICELESS to the Father. Christian,
we all go through those times in our lives that we feel of
low value.
Know what I mean?
Those times when our self esteem is low -- maybe we
made a mistake or did something foolish or just feel like no
one really cares.
It could be that we doubt our significance or have
little assurance or wonder if God even cares about our lives
among the billions on earth. Maybe
it's time we pick up the Price Guide! Take
a look inside, today, Christian.
And you'll find out YOUR value.
You'll find that God loves you and values you so much
that He showed the greatest act of love ever recorded when
His own Son shed His blood on the Cross. What
greater price could He have paid? "For
ye are bought with a price..." -- 1 Corinthians 6:20 Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
