January 7,
2000 -- Issue #82 "And
said, Verily I say unto you, My
nephew is a source of inspiration for me.
It seems that he has
been the starting point on a great deal of my
writing.
I just love the
little guy...and I've learned a lot from him. Take
for instance the time he was over out our house, just a
short
time ago.
It was late in the evening, the sun had already set
and it
was beginning to get dark outside.
CJ
decided that he wanted to toss
the football with me, so we went out into the front
yard and prepared
to play.
CJ bounded out towards the road and I stayed near the
house.
Almost
immediately upon arriving at his place, a rather large dog
from across the street began to bark loudly.
Quickly CJ ran towards me. "Uncle
Jimmy, " he said.
"Maybe you and I should switch places." "Why?"
I asked with a smile on my face. "Well,"
he kind of stammered.
"I don't want to hit the house with
the football, so I thought I would stay here and you
could go out
there at the road." Of
course, I could see right through him.
I knew that he was
scared of the dog, and that's why he wanted to switch
places.
So,
being the kind, considerate person I am... I
asked him, "Are you sure you aren't scared of the
dog?" ;-) CJ
came clean with me and admitted that he was scared of the
dog and him not wanting to hit the house was more of
a secondary
reason to switch places, kind of a by-product or
benefit of the switch. Again,
I learned something from him.
I learned that, as
Christians, people ought to be able to see right
through us, just like I
saw through him.
Oh, not through a lie or deceit, but they should be
able to see the same person throughout the week as they
would on Sunday morning at church.
Someone once said, "Hypocrites are people who
aren't themselves on Sunday."
There's a lot of truth in that statement. You
see, our lives should simply be an open book for others to
read, our words and actions merely paragraphs and chapters
in the continuing story that points others towards Christ.
We
often sing "I Love To Tell The Story."
Want to know the
greatest single way to tell the story of "Jesus
and His Love"? Live
it.
Let it be revealed in your words and your speech.
Let people see it in
your compassion and concern.
Let is shine forth as a light in your
smile.
Take the time to help those in need.
Lend a helping hand, offer a shoulder to cry on, give
an encouraging word to someone in
need of a cup of cheer.
And
people will notice.
People will see.
People will be drawn to
it...and ultimately they will be drawn to Jesus. What
do your words reveal?
What about your actions?
What's in
your "book"? Do
others see Jesus in you? Why not write a chapter about Him today? Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
