January 14,
2000 -- Issue #87 "And
said, Verily I say unto you, There's
one thing you've got to credit kids with... ...they're
outspoken. Kids
just speak their minds. A
small boy sat with his mother in church, listening to a
sermon entitled, "Who is Jesus?" The minister
punctuated his talk at several key intervals by asking,
"Who is Jesus?" Each time, he pounded his fist on
the pulpit for emphasis. At
one point, the lad whispered to his mother, "Mama, do
you know? Do you know who Jesus is?" "Yes,
dear," the mother replied, "now try to sit still
and listen." As the minister was wrapping up the
sermon, once again he thundered, "Who is a Jesus?"
and pounded especially hard on the pulpit. At that, the boy
jumped up and cried out, "Tell him, Mama, tell
him!" Kids
just speak their minds. They're outspoken. You
see, they haven't been told or learned the appropriate times
to say certain things. Oftentimes kids don't understand when
it's right and when it's wrong to share what they know, and
so, they're speech is often what we would describe as
"ill timed or ill placed." And
while there are, without a doubt, times that we should keep
our mouths shut, and there are times we should be very
cautious in speaking, there are also times that we can learn
a lot from children in speaking up and not holding back.
That time is when it comes to sharing the Good News of Jesus
Christ! Sometimes,
if we're not careful, we grow out of that "speak up and
share what's on your mind" mode when it comes to
presenting the Gospel. After all, for my wife to share the
Gospel at school where she teaches, it's against man's law
and could very easily result in her termination. What
happens when the Spirit of God leads her to witness at
school? Or what about where you work? It's not good for
business to tell customers that they are sinners bound for
hell.
What if you feel burdened to share the Gospel in that
setting? Then,
there are those times when we want so bad to tell someone
they need Jesus, but, it just makes us feel so uncomfortable
talking to them. You see, there is this unwritten rule that
says, "There are some times that it is inappropriate to
share the Gospel." I wonder if that was the Lord's way
of thinking. I wonder if the Apostle Paul thought that maybe
there were some times that he should hold back and not share
the Gospel. Did Peter and James and John express that idea?
I wonder if any of the Christians who gave their lives for
the cause of Christ through the ages lived by that rule. Oh,
there is a right time to share the Gospel, and that time is
anywhere, anytime the Spirit of God lays it on your heart to
do so. Children speak up...we are children of the Living
God, how much more should we speak up and share the Good
News of Jesus Christ? You
know, there are souls in our pathways every single day who
are crying out for the Gospel. The lives of lost and dying
people who are headed for an eternity in the lake of fire
call for someone to tell them about the saving grace of our
Savior. Friends,
if we look around us and listen with our hearts, we will see
a field white unto harvest with souls crying out, "Who
is Jesus? Who is Jesus?" And
the Spirit of God jumps up within us and cries out... ... "Tell them, Christian, tell them!" Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
