MY BEST EFFORT

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is
set before us." - Hebrews 12:1

I'll have to admit I didn't put much into it.

My wife and I have been doing an aerobics workout each night since the dawn of the new millennium.  (I know it's only been 21/2 weeks, but it sounds longer this way! ;-)

We have had a great time and we have already seen some positive results and feel better overall.  Without exception, I have worked out hard, putting everything I have into it.

Without exception...until tonight, that is.  I did the workout with my wife, because I knew she wanted me to.  Besides, I know it's good for me and I needed to work out.  But, my friends, my heart just wasn't in it.

I certainly didn't do it because I wanted to!

My feet hardly left the ground, my arms stayed close to my side and my abs didn't do much tightening.  Good grief, I barely broke a sweat!  I  went through the motions and was glad to be done with it when it was over.

As I finished my "workout" - and I use that word very loosely in tonight's case ;-)  the Lord began to speak to me about my relationship with Him.  You see, a lackluster workout is one thing, but half-hearted Christianity is quite another.

I began to think about my service, commitment and loyalty to the Savior...do I give my best effort?  Do I "put everything I have" into living for Him?  Is our heart in Bible study, prayer, church, witnessing, discipleship and separation from the world?

Christian, may we never come to Him with half a heart.  May we never serve Him with our feet still on the ground and  our arms at our sides, never breaking a spiritual sweat.  God forbid we should ever read our Bibles or pray or attend church because someone wants us to.  Christianity isn't a spoonful of medicine with a bad taste that we take because we know it's good for us.

We live the life because we love it!  And because we love Jesus!

Your life means something to the Master.  Your life is on display for others to see  Christ in action.  Put everything you've got into it.  Give it your best effort...

...because that's exactly what Jesus did for you.
