January 26,
2000 -- Issue #95 "...saith
the LORD:
for I will forgive their iniquity, They
never were seen again... ...sounds
like an old legend about a group of people who mysteriously
disappeared in the Bermuda triangle.
Or, maybe it sounds like the opening of the
"Alfred Hitchcock Hour" or even "Unsolved
Mysteries."
Perhaps it could be a part of a "ghost
story" told around a roaring campfire. Actually,
it's none of those things.
"They never were seen again" refers to a
folder of files stored on my computer. You
see, several months ago I
purged my computer to free up extra space.
I trashed the outdated and unimportant files, as well
as those that I never used or had no further need for. As
I came to a rather large folder, I noticed that there were
literally thousands of files store there.
It's amazing how many files you can create!
I wanted something done about them, so... ...Click.
I hit the "delete" button and they were
gone.
They were never seen again.
I was amazed at how quickly, just at the click of a
button,
they were erased completely.
It's as if they were never there. Friends,
now it is amazing at how many files I had created on my
computer, that's true.
But, what is even more amazing is the large number of
files my sinful life had created in times past! I
remember well the day that I saw that large directory... ...There
was a file entitled, "Lies I have told."
What an ugly record to have been kept.
Another file created from my life was, "Girls
that I lusted after."
I dare not let anyone see that one.
The directory of my life also had files including:
"Times I have cheated others," "Gossip I have
spread," "Drugs I have used," "Beers I
have drunk," "People I have hated,"
"Hurtful words I intentionally spoke,"
"Movies I have watched," and "Ways I
cheated my employer."
Could
it be possible that such an accurate record was kept of my
life?
I dared not look at the remainder of the thousands of
files that I had created with my life. All
had titles indicating the multitudes of sins I had
committed. I
became ashamed that I had done so many awful things.
I didn't want to live in that manner anymore.
What could I do?
How could I change?
Could I be forgiven for what I had already done? Someone
told me the answer.
His Name is Jesus. And
so I went to the Lord seeking forgiveness and asked Him to
save me and change my life.
Want to know what He did?
Click.
He hit the delete button.
That's right, He erased those ugly files forever.
Didn't matter how many there were, in an instant they
were gone.
No evidence that they were ever there.
Completely erased. I'm
not perfect, I'm still creating files.
But, praise God He is still in the deleting business
today! Christian,
are there any files that you haven't asked the Lord to
forgive?
Confess them and you'll hear a most precious sound...
...Click. The sound of Jesus hitting the delete button. Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," |
