2000 -- Issue #99 "Pray
without ceasing." God has a way of getting our attention. Amen? I woke up this morning with a thousand things on my schedule. Yesterday's "things to do" list had numerous unchecked boxes remaining and it seemed that today was the deadline for all of them. Add to that my full load already penciled in, and you have the makings of a long day. Already running behind, I decided to save time by skipping my daily prayer with the Lord. Quickly, I showered, got dressed and searched the pantry for something to eat for breakfast. Because it has a fast preparation time, I went with cereal. I scooped up my bowl of cereal and rounded the corner, heading for my favorite chair to eat in when... ...thud! I noticed too late the cabinet door that I had forgotten to close. Without time to lower my head, I walked full speed into it. My Fruit Loops went flying through the air and landed in a crash on the carpet in our living room! Milk sprayed myself, the carpet and the walls at the entry of the hall. The bowl and spoon went in opposite directions, each landing upside down. And me? Having just knocked a knot on my head the size of a golf ball, I went down for the count. I mean to tell you I fell down flat on my back. Hard. In the milk and Fruit Loops. Did I mention that I was already running late?! My head connected with the cabinet, the cereal spilled, I went down and God made His point... ...if you start your day without lowering your head, you'll end up on your back. The knot on my head should serve as a reminder for at least a week or so. ;-) My friend, the reason so many of us are banging our heads is because we aren't spending the kind of quality time in prayer that we need. We get up with so much to do and so little time to get it done, that we try to take shortcuts. Shortcuts that oftentimes mean bypassing our time with the Lord. That kind of shortcut always leads to failure. Today, I am sure, you have many things that you need to do. We live in a busy world and your life is probably no exception. But, Christian, however busy you may be...don't skip your prayer time. Don't take that shortcut. Don't try to bypass God. If you do, then you'll be headed for a fall. You'll end up on your back. That's right, you'll be headed for a cabinet door. So, if you don't want to run straight into it... ...you better lower your head!Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ," Jimmy D. Brown \o/ Praise Jesus! |
